Message I've owned two Z's and both of them have done it like you describe, 1 out of 10times or maybe 1 out of 20. I have examined the starter teeth and flywheel teeth on both of them with my own eyes and did not find any broken teeth on either vehicle. So I ask the people that say it is broken teeth......Have you ever actually examined the flywheel and starter and found broken teeth????? Or is this a guess???

As in my case, if it is not broken teeth it would lead me to believe the starter is the problem. I think the problem is the starter solenoid. It is week or gets hung occassionally. However, I have never repaired the problem, so cannot say for sure if this is the source. I don't know what else it could be though.

: Hey, guys...

: I have a 92TT with low miles--25K or so. Ever since I got it 5-6 years ago, the thing would make a loud grinding noise (starter grinding) once in a while--maybe 1 out of 10 starts.

: It sounds awful, makes my teeth feel like they're gonna fall outta my head, and is embarassing. I had a Nissan tech do some work on it...he claims that he changed the starter. It's still happening. Anyone else have this problem? What have you done? Is it a prob with the flywheel?

: The car is in otherwise excellent shape, and the car never fails to start. This noise, though, is kinda irritating.

: Thanks much,
: Lansing
